The Scurry County Museum was formed in April 1970. By-Laws were prepared, and trustees were appointed. Initial funding for the Museum came from the Scurry County Commissioners Court .

In November 1971, a bond issue was passed by county voters to fund a museum building on Western Texas College 's campus. The 14,350 square foot structure cost $345,000, which is equivalent to $1,675,665 in today's dollars. The building is owned and maintained by the College, but the collections, functions, and operations are under the jurisdiction of the Scurry County Museum Association.

Mission

The Scurry County Museum in Snyder, Texas is dedicated to increasing the knowledge and understanding of the history of Scurry County and the surrounding area of the Southern Rolling Plains. Through an active program of collections, exhibits, educational opportunities, and special events, the Museum seeks to stimulate creative thought and provide a sense of place, time, and space for residents of and visitors to Scurry County.
