     Tracks Across the Land
intends to provide a multi-sensory experience of life in the Southern Plains region of  West Texas in and around Scurry County, 1870 to present.
The title: Tracks Across the Land, suggests that the region is a part of the great westward movement of Americans.  Using the humanities themes of opportunity, encounters, resilience, and identity, our exhibition will draw visitors into the lives of those who immigrated and remained,  to create a way of life that is both thoroughly American and shaped by both South and West.
That some immigrants chose to move on rather than stay opens other dimensions of the American experience.  The opportunity provided by the region, the encounters among those who came and went, the resilience of those who stayed, and the resulting identity of its people, give this part of West Texas a distinctive - though not unique - way of being American and Texan in the Twenty-first Century
