      Encounters shows how settlers did and did not get along; how they adapted their social institutions and attitudes to new realities; how they made lives for themselves culturally and spiritually; how things changed with the coming of the railroad, paved highways, and the oil boom and bust.
     Snyder, along with other towns and cities, made adjustments (sometimes painful ones) to the civil rights movements and integration of schools.
